Your safari might begin with a visit to Lake Naivasha, a freshwater lake that’s home to over 400 species of birds. Here, you might see cormorants, kingfishers, eagles, and herons. Additionally, you might visit the nearby Hell’s Gate National Park, which is home to several bird species, including the Verreaux’s Eagle and the Augur Buzzard. Moving on to Lake Nakuru, you’ll have the opportunity to see one of the world’s most remarkable wildlife spectacles. The lake is known for its millions of flamingos, which turn the lake’s surface into a vibrant pink hue. Apart from flamingos, you might also see pelicans, storks, herons, and other waterfowl. Lake Baringo is one of Kenya’s most important bird areas, with over 470 species recorded. Here, you’ll have the chance to see several species of eagles, kingfishers, bee-eaters, and hornbills. You might also take a boat ride to see the crocodiles and hippos that live in the lake. Lake Bogoria is a shallow alkaline lake famous for its hot springs and geysers. It’s also home to over 200 species of birds, including flamingos, pelicans, and other waterbirds. A visit to the Kakamega Forest will give you the chance to see some of Kenya’s most elusive forest birds. The forest is home to over 330 bird species, including turacos, hornbills, and barbets. Finally, your safari will take you to the Masai Mara, one of the world’s most famous wildlife reserves. The Mara is home to over 550 bird species, including raptors, vultures, and ground birds like bustards and korhaans.

Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi

Upon arrival, you will have a meet and greet service from Bontel Adventures representative who will transfer you to your hotel for check-in and overnight stay at The Heron Portico: This hotel is situated in the heart of Nairobi and provides a perfect base for birding enthusiasts. It has spacious rooms with comfortable amenities and is within close proximity to the Nairobi National Park, the Ngong Hills, and the Nairobi Arboretum.

Day 2: Nairobi to Lake Naivasha

After breakfast, depart Nairobi in the morning and drive to Lake Naivasha (approximately 2 hours). Arrive at your lodge for check-in and lunch. Afternoon birding safari in the nearby Lake Naivasha area, looking for birds such as the African Fish Eagle, Pied Kingfisher, and African Jacana. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Lake Naivasha to Lake Nakuru

Early morning breakfast at the lodge and departure for Lake Nakuru (approximately 1 hour). Arrive at Lake Nakuru National Park and begin your full-day birding safari in the park, known for its flamingos, pelicans, and other water birds. Take a break mid-morning for a packed snack and continue with the safari. Have a picnic lunch inside the park and continue with the safari. Exit the park in the late afternoon and drive to your lodge for check-in, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 4: Lake Nakuru to Lake Baringo

Early morning breakfast at the lodge and departure for Lake Baringo (approximately 2.5 hours). Arrive at your lodge for check-in and lunch. Have a picnic lunch inside the forest and continue with the safari. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 10: Masai Mara Full Day Safari

Early morning departure from your camp in Masai Mara with packed breakfast and snacks to eat along the way. Drive through the reserve with an experienced bird guide, stopping at various birding spots and listening for calls. Explore different areas of the reserve, looking for a variety of birds such as the Lilac-breasted Roller, African Fish Eagle, Secretary Bird, Kori Bustard, and many more. Take a break mid-morning for a packed snack and a chance to rest and take in the surroundings. Continue with the safari, exploring different areas of the reserve and watching for birds and other wildlife. Have a picnic lunch at a scenic spot in the reserve and continue with an afternoon game drive in search of more birdlife. Depart the reserve in the evening and return to your camp for dinner and overnight.
